原木は岐阜県揖斐郡大野町にあり、1923年に「揖斐二度ザクラ」として国の天然記念物に指定されました。一樹中で一重咲き、八重咲、二段咲きの花を咲かせ、二段咲きの花では外側の花の後に内側の花が咲くので二度桜といわれる珍しい桜です。
