花は普通5花の集合花で垂れ下がって咲き、深紅または紅色です。樹の姿や花のつき方が少し石楠花に似て、この名前がつけられていますが、マンサク科の植物で花も早春に咲きます。
The scarlet flowers are borne on short peduncles in the axils of the leaves. Each flower has several whorls of rounded bracts, many spatulate petals, stamens the same length as the petals and a slightly shorter style.
