One of the rarest alpine species, it lives in rock crevices, in the central and eastern Alps, in Carinthia and in Slovenia, grown in the Alps at altitudes of 300–2,000 m. It has dense umbels of necked, pale mauve flowers with prominent purple tips (tufts) in summer.

Pictures in Italy are sent from my old friend Mr. Mario Berti, Rome Italy.
