小笠原諸島の固有種のニシキギ科ニシキギ属の常緑の低木でマサキに比べると葉の厚みや光沢が少ないです。
It is an evergreen shrub of the Euonymus family, which is endemic to the Ogasawara Islands, and has less leaf thickness and luster than Japanese spindle (Euonymus japonicus).
