原木は宮城県塩釜市・塩竃神社境内にあり、神社の社紋もこの桜をモチーフしたものです。この名は「花壇綱目」(1681)、「怡顔斎桜品」(1758)などにみられることから古くから知られた品種と推定されます。なお、マスヤマ（増山）も塩釜と呼ばれることがあるようです。
The original tree is located in the precincts of Shiogama Shrine in Miyagi Prefecture, and the shrine’s crest is also based on this cherry blossom. This name is presumed to be a long-known variety because the name were found some old books published in Edo era.
