The original tree is located in the Sasaga area in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. It was selceted in 1987 by Mr. Momose from seedlings of Oshima cherry (C. speciosa) by his own garden It is highly probable that Oshima was crossed with Oshidori cherry (a variety belongs to C. incisa) based on the fact that there was a Oshidori cherry tree nearby and the characteristics of the leaves and flowers of them. This name was given by Mr. Kubota in 1992.
