原産地/ Original : North America

北米原産のミカン科の低木又は小高木で、果実をビールに苦みを加えるホップ(クワ科)の代用としたことから名づけられています。

The plant has an unpleasant odor and bitter taste.The flowers are small, 1–2 cm across, with 4–5 narrow, greenish white petals. German immigrants to Texas in the 19th century used its seeds in place of hops in the beer-making process, lending the species its common name.
