ヨーロッパのアルプス、ピレネーなどの高地に生息するリンドウの仲間で濃い紫の花を咲かせます。花梗が短いので、英名でStemless gentianや日本語の矮鶏竜胆と呼ばれます。
It has the trumpet-shaped terminal flowers which are blue with olive-green spotted longitudinal throats. The name of stemless comes from the shape of a very short peduncle. Different from common Genzianella because of it skirt under the crown of petals
