日本在来の野生種のひとつで、花びらは白からごく薄い紅色で、桜の仲間では花びらが小さい一方、萼筒が長く横から見ると丁字や丁子(クローブ)のように見えることから「ちょうじ」桜と呼ばれています。
This species is one of the endemic cherries. The name clove cherry is come by its clove-bud-shaped calyx and petal is relatively small.
