花は橙色で直径4cmほどの両性花で、夏から秋にかけて葉腋に咲きます。昼ごろ開いて1日でしぼむので、午時花と呼ばれます。
Scarlet flowers are borne in the axils of the leaves with 5 large, deep rose, and show petals. The flowers open around noon, and close the following dawn.
