日本名のミズヒキは花の色が表面が赤、裏が白く見えることからミズヒキと呼ばれています。北米にも近縁種があり、こちらは種がはじけるのでJump seedと呼ばれているようです。
The name is coming from seed is jumping from flower when its rapen. The impression from name is completely different from Japanese name “Mixuhiki” which means red-and white paper thread for rapping.
