春に茎の先に直径4cmの花弁状の萼片を持つ花を1個、花茎の先端につけます。萼片は白色でふつう5-6枚、裏面は紅色を帯びる場合があります。同じ時期に咲く二輪草と同じく初夏には枯れるいわゆるスプリング・エフェメラルですが、二輪草に比べると萼片も大きく目立ちます。また八重咲のものも見られます。
This is a kind of spring ephemeral bearing flower with 5-6 white sepals of 4 cm diameter seldom pale pink on out side top of each stem. It has also double petals varieties.
