紫色のラッパ状の花の先端は唇が避けたように開く独特の形をしていて、ケマン（華鬘）とは、仏壇に飾る花輪をかたどった仏具のことで、花の姿が似ていることから、その名が付けられたそういです。全体がやわらかく、傷つけるとやや悪臭があります。ジロボウエンゴサクと花の形が似ていますが、ムラサキケマンの葉はニンジンの葉のように避けているのに対しジロボウエンゴサクの花は楕円形なので見分けがつきます。花は全体が赤紫で先の紫が濃いものがムラサキケマンですが、白花で先端に紫色が残っているのがシロヤブケマン、紫がないのがユキヤブケマンと呼ばれれています。
The wildflower is native to Japan and East Asia,with violet tubar shape with rips flower found in forests, clearings, and irrigation channels. Leaf of Incised fumewort has deep divided divisions like carrot leaf which is different of Corydalis decumbens which has similar flower. Depends on the darkness of purple and white, two varieties can be distinguished, as C. incisa f. pallescens, only purple on rips and C. incisa f. candida, almost white.
