裸子植物に分類され、種子を作る植物の中ではいわゆる原始的な植物で生きた化石ともいわれます。実（核）は銀杏として食べますが、周りの果実は強烈な匂いをもっています。街路樹として用いられ一斉に黄色に色づくことで目を引きます。
During autumn, the leaves turn a bright yellow, then fall, sometimes within a short space of time (one to 15 days). Ginkgos are prized for their autumn foliage, which is a deep saffron yellow. It has various uses in traditional medicine and as a source of food.
