初夏から晩秋にかけて濃い紫色の花を咲かせます。なお、日本では、本来サルビア・プラテンシスを指す「メドーセージ」の名で流通していることが多いですが、これは日本にサルビア・ガラニチカが輸入され始めた頃に流通業者が間違って名づけてしまったためと言われています。
The inflorescences are up to 25 cm long with flowers in various shades of blue, including an uncommonly true blue.
