スズラン属の日本在来変種のスズランはC. m. var. keiskeiであり、本州中部以北、東北、北海道の高地に多く自生します。北海道を代表する花として知られます。花には強い芳香があります。フランスでは、花嫁にスズランを贈る風習があり、また、メーデーにスズランの花を贈り合います。
C. majalis var. keiskei occurs in Japan and parts of eastern Asia. It is known as the representative flower of Hokkaido. The flowers have a strong fragrance.

Convallaria majalis is a native of Europe, Convallaria majalis is a plant of partial shade, and mesophile type that prefers warm summers. Convallaria majalis is widely grown in gardens for its scented flowers and ground-covering abilities in shady locations.All parts of the plant are potentially poisonous, including the red berries which may be attractive to children. If ingested, the plant can cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and irregular heartbeats.
