花の形はアヤメや花菖蒲に似ています。紺色の花が代表的な感じですが、ピンクや黄色など花色も多く目立ちます。ただ同じ西洋系のジャーマンアイリスに比べると控えめな感じです。アヤメと同じく乾燥した場所を好みます。
