茎にらせん状にピンクの小さな花を咲かせますが、蘭の仲間です。「みちのくの しのぶもぢずり 誰ゆゑに 乱れそめにし 我ならなくに」のもぢずりは着物の模様をさし、このもじずりの名前もここからきているという。従って、この歌でこの花が歌われているわけではないようです。
Flowering on stem twisting during development into an upside-down position. The flowers are usually white, cream, yellow, scarlet or red, and at least one species has pink flower.
