ソメイヨシノに似ていますが、開花はソメイヨシノより約１週間早く、オオシマザクラの自然実生から発見されたと言われています。元外務大臣の伊東正義が伊東市から取り寄せて外務省前にも数本植えたものがソメイヨシノよりやや早めに咲きます。
This variety is a little bit early blooming than someiyoshino developped from seedlings from Oshima in Ito city. Several trees was transplanted to in from of Ministry of Foreign affaires at the time of Mr. Ito was Foreign Minister.
